![]() ![]() Linux Mint 2.0 'Barbara' was the first version to use Ubuntu as its codebase and its GNOME interface. Linux Mint began in 2006 with a beta release, 1.0, code-named 'Ada', based on Kubuntu and using its KDE interface. The Linux Mint project was created by Clément Lefèbvre and is actively maintained by the Linux Mint Team and community. Compared to Ubuntu, it uses a different Cinnamon interface by default, using a different, more traditional layout that can be customized by dragging the applets and creating panels. It can provide full out-of-the-box multimedia support for those who choose to include proprietary software such as multimedia codecs.
